The transport sector accounts for one-fifth of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. In Sweden, this sector contributes to 32% of our total emissions, while in Taiwan, it accounts for 14%. These figures highlight the significant impact of transportation on our environment and the urgent need for sustainable solutions.
Despite the railway sector being considered a greener mode of transport compared to air travel, there is still much work to be done to make it as efficient and green as possible. On December 13th, the Swedish Representative Helena Reitberger, Business Sweden Market Manager Martin Vercouter, and Sweden+Taiwan Green Transition Alliance members Assa Abloy, Baseload Power, and Camfil met with General Manager Feng of Taiwan Railway Corporation and his team to discuss green transition. Taiwan Railway presented its green transition roadmap, and the members presented their sustainable solutions for geothermal power, access control, and clean air solutions. As the Swedish Representative Helena Reitberger indicated, “Given our country's vast distances and relatively small population, transportation issues are central to our policy measures. Sweden has set ambitious goals to address this challenge and set the target to cut 70% of transportation emissions by 2030.”
General Manager Feng expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “This meeting is a start, and we look forward to more exchanges and collaboration with Sweden in the future.” We also look forward to seeing more green transition collaboration with the main infrastructure in Taiwan between Taiwan and Sweden in the future.
